The meat industry plays a major role in generating wealth for the economy. The Department of Labour is committed to supporting the industry build the skills and workplace conditions needed to improve productivity in the long term.

The Department has led this engagement through a Meat Industry Tripartite Group made up of industry, union and government representatives, to assist in the resolution of labour market constraints.

A working group from across the industry developed an industry skills plan. This group included the Meat Industry Association, major companies, unions and government agencies.
