New Zealand Injury Prevention Strategy

The New Zealand Injury Prevention Strategy was launched in June 2003 by the Minister for ACC.

The strategy, which covers injuries in all settings, provides a vision and strategic direction for injury prevention in New Zealand.

The strategy (on page 26) refers to the Department of Labour's role in leading the co-ordination of national strategies for the prevention of workplace injuries (including occupational diseases). The Department will achieve this through the Workplace Health and Safety Strategy project.

Workplace Health and Safety Strategy

The Strategy is a government plan for action and was launched in 2005. It aims to significantly reduce toll of workplace injury and disease in New Zealand. The Strategy also works to:

  • raise awareness of workplace health and safety;
  • help co-ordinate and prioritise the actions of a wide range of organizations; and
  • improve the infrastructure that supports workplace health and safety.
