Since joining the Department I have found the work here exciting and meaningful. What we do has a big impact on the lives of all New Zealanders.

In making my decision to become the Chief Executive, I looked carefully at the Department and researched the kind of work that it does. You can use this area of our website to do the same.  

The Department has a long history and our background is made more interesting given the relative youthfulness of our country. Our work has evolved through different eras of New Zealand's history and is still important today in helping shape the make-up of the workforce and workplaces across the country.

I have worked as a Chief Executive of several different government departments since 1991. My background includes two music degrees and an engineering degree. So I'm just one example of the diverse skills that make up our team. My story also highlights the fact that regardless of your qualifications, the public service offers exciting opportunities for talented people.
